4OUR
From JOE INK, and celebrated Vancouver Choreographer Joe Laughlin, comes 4OUR – an emotionally resonant, deeply moving exploration of family dynamics, cross-generational relationships, and the singular moments that shape our life’s journey. Balancing moments of melancholy with humor, and nostalgia with celebration, 4OUR is a joyous reflection on the evolution of our lives and on those who influence, protect, and ultimately leave us – yet their memories ineffably linger on. Laughlin performs alongside dance-greats Gioconda Barbuto, Heather Dotto, and Jarrett Siddall. Transition garment pieces by Alice Mansell, costumes by Linda Chow, video Eric Chad, lighting James Proudfoot, dramaturgy Jo Leslie and sound design Kate De Lorme.

“Laughlin has that rare talent of drawing from so many styles to fuel an endless supply of fresh ideas.”
“Strange, eclectic, and deeply personal, Joe Ink’s 4OUR has many moments of striking imagery that get under your skin in ways you might not fully understand.”
“The work meditates on life, relationships, and memory; there is a lot of chemistry that happens in the pairings here, as bodies pull each other, tangle, and burst apart.”
“The sequence of Barbuto and Tookey in the waves is moving and surreal, especially with her gauzy white veil and a platform that lifts her off the ground.”
“And the finale, with Barbuto dancing in what looks like a snowstorm turning into the Milky Way, is serene.”
THE GEORGIA STRAIGHT
“4OUR was like a dream. Not only was the choreography, lighting, set design, and dramaturgy so expertly integrated into a cohesive narrative, but the entire show had an other-worldly quality to it that was mesmerizing.”
“Adding to the dreamlike quality was the beautiful lighting and video projections played on the back wall to add another layer of meaning.”
“Joe Laughlin has crafted this masterwork that explores themes of memory, age, and the mature dancer. The paradox of artistic maturity coinciding with deteriorating bodies.”
“This emotionally full, layered work ended on a beautiful note with snowy lighting falling across the stage, the dancers silhouettes still and pensive as we took in the silence and calm.”
